  • Patients wanting a regenerative result through their own collagen and elastin
  • Anyone seeking a deeper bio-stimulation than mesotherapy or surface treatments give

Aftercare

For the first forty-eight hours.

  • Avoid touching, rubbing or massaging the treated area for twenty-four hours

Salmon DNA polynucleotide is the deeper regenerative injectable on the CoLaz menu. Short fragments of purified salmon DNA are placed into the dermis through fine micro-injections, where they signal your own fibroblasts to lay down new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Particularly effective on scarring, the under-eye area and overall skin quality. From £149 per single session, with a course of six at £580, across our seven UK clinics.

How polynucleotides actually work

Polynucleotides are short fragments of DNA extracted from the gonads of wild-caught salmon, then purified to medical grade for injection. Despite the unusual source, the fragments are not active in any pharmacological sense and contain no genetic information that interacts with your body. They act as a pure biological signal.

Once placed into the dermis, polynucleotides signal local fibroblasts to begin producing new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, and they accelerate the body's natural tissue repair pathways. Over the following weeks, the treated skin is rebuilt from within, with the strongest results visible at six to eight weeks after the final session of a course.

This regenerative approach is fundamentally different from filler. Filler adds volume; polynucleotides rebuild the existing tissue itself. Skin treated with polynucleotides is genuinely better quality, firmer, more elastic, better hydrated, rather than topped up with synthetic product.

What polynucleotides are best for

Polynucleotides are particularly strong on three things. First, the under-eye area, where thin, crepey skin contributes to dark circles and where a regenerative approach beats volume work for the right patient. Lumi Eyes, our dedicated under-eye polynucleotide protocol, uses this chemistry.

Second, scarring. Acne scarring, surgical scars and post-inflammatory texture all respond well to polynucleotides because the regenerative effect rebuilds the disordered tissue from within. A longer course is usually agreed for scarring protocols.

Third, overall skin quality. Patients with loss of firmness, elasticity and the slightly aged look that no single concern explains often see the strongest improvement here. The treatment pairs well with Sunekos, Profhilo and Hydrafacial in a wider plan; the right combination is agreed at consultation.

After your polynucleotide

Expect small injection points, mild swelling and possible light bruising for one to two days. Most patients return to work the next day with light makeup once twelve hours have passed. There is no peeling, no flaking and no significant downtime.

No touching, rubbing or massaging the area for twenty-four hours. Saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds and intense exercise are out for forty-eight hours. SPF 50 every morning for at least two weeks is non-negotiable while the new collagen develops.

Early hydration and a subtle freshness appear within a week. The real structural change, firmer, more elastic, better-quality skin, builds over four to eight weeks and continues through the course. Most patients book maintenance every six to nine months once the initial course of three or six is complete.

Often considered alongside

Common questions

What patients ask first.

What are salmon DNA polynucleotides and how do they work? +

Polynucleotides are short fragments of DNA, extracted from the gonads of wild-caught salmon and purified to medical grade. Once injected into the dermis, these fragments act as a powerful biological signal that tells local fibroblasts to produce new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, and accelerates the body's natural tissue repair pathways. The result is genuine regeneration of the skin from within rather than the addition of a synthetic product on top.

What can salmon DNA polynucleotide treat? +

Polynucleotides are one of the most versatile regenerative treatments in aesthetics. They work on loss of firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality across the face and neck. They are particularly effective on dark under-eye circles and crepey skin around the orbit, on acne scarring and surgical scars, and on patients with early ageing where filler would be too structural. The exact protocol, including which area and how many sessions, is agreed at consultation.

How is this different from Sunekos or Profhilo? +

All three are bio-stimulators rather than fillers. Sunekos uses hyaluronic acid plus a precise blend of amino acids; Profhilo is a thermally cross-linked hyaluronic acid that bio-remodels by spreading across the deep tissue. Polynucleotides use DNA fragments to signal fibroblast activity and accelerate repair, which is why they are particularly effective on scars, post-inflammatory skin and the under-eye area. The right tool for your face is matched at consultation; many treatment plans combine them.

How many sessions will I need? +

A standard course is three to six sessions spaced four weeks apart. Three sessions give a noticeable improvement; six sessions give the strongest, longest-lasting result because the collagen and elastin remodelling builds with each session. Maintenance sessions every six to nine months are recommended once the initial course is complete. For scarring protocols, a longer course may be agreed at consultation.

Is there downtime? +

Downtime is minimal. Expect small injection points, mild swelling and possible light bruising for one to two days. Most patients return to work the next day with light makeup once twelve hours have passed. Saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds and intense exercise are out for forty-eight hours. SPF 50 daily for two weeks while the skin rebuilds is non-negotiable.

Who should not have polynucleotide? +

We do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have a known allergy to fish proteins, who have an active skin infection or cold sore in the treatment area, who are on blood-thinning medication without prior medical clearance, who have certain auto-immune conditions, or who have a history of keloid scarring. Medical history is reviewed in detail at consultation before any course is booked.

How much does salmon DNA polynucleotide cost at CoLaz? +

A single polynucleotide session is £149. A course of three is £320, working out at approximately £107 per session. A course of six is £580, working out at approximately £97 per session and the most popular protocol because the regenerative effect is strongly cumulative. A consultation is required before any course is booked to confirm the right protocol for your skin and concern.
