Skin concern

Stretch marks.

Red, purple or silver-white stretch marks from pregnancy, growth, weight changes or muscle gain. We soften the texture and colour with a structured collagen-led course.

The condition

What is actually happening in stretch marks-prone skin.

Stretch marks (striae) are a form of scarring that forms when the skin stretches faster than the underlying collagen and elastin can keep up, typically during pregnancy, puberty growth spurts, significant weight changes or rapid muscle gain. The collagen scaffold tears, and the skin heals with the visible parallel-line scarring we recognise.

Fresh stretch marks are red or purple (striae rubrae) and respond best to in-clinic treatment because the underlying inflammation is still active. Older marks are silver-white (striae albae), the colour has faded but the structural scarring remains, and the texture work is harder. The earlier the treatment, the better the result.

At CoLaz we treat stretch marks across a structured course rather than one-off sessions. The collagen and pigment work takes months to mature, and patients who commit to the full course see meaningfully better results than those who stop after one or two visits.

Matched to this concern

The treatments we would consider for stretch marks.

No single treatment works for every patient, we pair the right protocol to your skin type, the severity and where it is appearing. The combinations below are the most commonly indicated at CoLaz.

01 · Collagen remodelling

Dermapen Microneedling

Dermapen microneedling creates controlled microchannels through the scarred skin, triggering new collagen and elastin production exactly where the scaffold tore. A course of four to six sessions four weeks apart delivers visible smoothing and tone improvement.

Best for: all stretch marks, red and white, recent and older, stomach, thighs, breasts and arms

02 · Laser remodelling

PICO Laser Treatment

PICO laser uses ultra-short pulses to fragment pigment and remodel collagen at depth without surface heat. Particularly strong on the colour difference between stretch mark and surrounding skin, fades red and brightens white marks. Safe across all Fitzpatrick skin types.

Best for: pigmentation difference, mixed-colour stretch marks, Fitzpatrick 4 to 6

03 · Skin tightening

Radio Frequency Treatment

Radio-frequency delivers controlled heat to stimulate collagen contraction and remodelling in the dermis. Strong on the skin laxity that often accompanies stretch marks, particularly on the abdomen after pregnancy or significant weight loss.

Best for: post-pregnancy stomach laxity, weight-loss stretch marks, mature skin

04 · Healing support

PRP Face

Platelet-rich plasma drawn from your own blood, applied during microneedling sessions to accelerate healing and supply growth factors. Boosts the collagen response on stubborn or mature stretch marks, particularly white striae.

Best for: older white stretch marks, slow-healing skin, combined with Dermapen

How we approach it

A structured course, calibrated to the age of the marks.

I.

Treat the active phase first

Red and purple stretch marks (*striae rubrae*) respond best because the underlying inflammation and collagen activity are still active. A course of four to six Dermapen microneedling sessions, often combined with PICO laser for pigment difference, delivers the strongest result in this phase.

II.

Refine and maintain

Older white stretch marks (*striae albae*) need a longer, more layered course, Dermapen plus PRP plus PICO across six to eight sessions for visible improvement. Radio-frequency is added when skin laxity is part of the picture, particularly after pregnancy. Maintenance sessions every six to twelve months hold the result.

At home

What you can do alongside the in-clinic plan.

  • Treat fresh stretch marks early, the red and purple phase responds dramatically better than the silver-white mature phase
  • Keep the skin moisturised daily with a barrier-supporting cream, supports the healing collagen between in-clinic sessions
  • Wear SPF 50 on visible stretch marks year-round, sun exposure deepens the colour difference between mark and surrounding skin
  • Maintain a stable weight after treatment, significant weight changes can create new marks alongside the treated ones
  • Allow the full course to complete before judging, collagen remodelling continues for three to six months after the final session

A note from the clinic

“Fresh stretch marks are the most rewarding to treat, caught early they often fade to near-invisible. Older marks need patience and a layered course. We will be honest at consultation about which category yours sit in.”

Common questions

About stretch marks treatment.

Can stretch marks be completely removed?

Honestly, no, a full course typically delivers a meaningful visible reduction rather than complete erasure. Fresh red and purple stretch marks often fade to near-invisible across a structured course. Older silver-white marks usually improve significantly but rarely disappear entirely because the structural scarring remains. We will be honest at consultation about what is realistic for your specific marks based on their age and depth.

Which treatment is best for my stretch marks?

It depends on the age, colour and location. Fresh red and purple marks respond best to Dermapen microneedling combined with PICO laser. Older white marks need a layered course, Dermapen plus PRP plus PICO over six to eight sessions. Post-pregnancy stomach marks with skin laxity benefit from radio-frequency added to the plan. The right combination is agreed at consultation with photographs and a written course outline.

How long until I see results from stretch mark treatment?

Most patients see early visible smoothing and colour fading after the second or third session. The most meaningful change builds across the full course of four to six sessions, with the collagen result continuing to mature for three to six months after the final session. Older white stretch marks are slower to respond and need patience. Photographs are taken at the start so progress can be tracked objectively.

Can I have stretch mark treatment during pregnancy?

No. We do not treat stretch marks during pregnancy. The skin is changing rapidly during pregnancy and any in-clinic protocols are paused. We are happy to plan ahead from a consultation, and we recommend starting the treatment course around three to six months postpartum once you have stopped breastfeeding and your skin has settled, that is when the freshest marks are still in the highly responsive red phase.

Are stretch mark treatments safe?

Yes, all stretch mark treatments at CoLaz are delivered by qualified clinicians using CE-marked devices, with skin type and medical history reviewed at consultation. We always test-patch on Fitzpatrick 4-6 patients before a full session because pigment risk is real on darker skin. Short-term mild redness, swelling and pinpoint bleeding from microneedling are normal and self-limiting.

Is there any downtime?

Dermapen microneedling causes redness for twenty-four to forty-eight hours, mild flaking for two to three days, and the treated area is sensitive for around a week. PICO laser causes mild redness for a few hours. Radio-frequency feels warm but has no real downtime. PRP causes mild bruising at the blood-draw site for one to two days. We confirm the expected recovery at consultation so you can plan around any events.

How much does stretch mark treatment cost at CoLaz?

Dermapen microneedling is sold per session with discounts on courses of three or six. PICO laser is sold per area per session. Radio-frequency is sold per session. PRP is sold per session and often bundled with microneedling. The full plan price is agreed in writing at your free consultation before any session is booked.
