Dermapen is the brand-name microneedling device CoLaz uses across all seven UK clinics. The technique is collagen induction; the device is what makes the delivery precise. From £149 per session, delivered only by trained clinicians.

Why CoLaz uses Dermapen specifically

Generic microneedling rollers drag needles across the skin, which can tear rather than puncture and can introduce inconsistent depth. Dermapen replaces that with a motorised vertical needle action: each needle enters and exits the skin perpendicular to the surface at a controlled rate of hundreds of passes per second.

The depth is set per area on the device, with a range from 0.25mm for fine line renewal up to 2.5mm for body and scar protocols. Single-use sterile cartridges click in and out between patients, so there is no cross-contamination risk that older multi-use devices can carry.

It is the same machine we use for our generic microneedling protocol, branded under its proper name. The clinical effect is the same; the precision and the safety profile are what justify the brand-specific page.

What a CoLaz Dermapen session looks like

Skin is double-cleansed and topical numbing cream is applied for thirty to forty-five minutes before the device starts. The clinician sets the depth on the device per area: lower for fine line work, higher for acne scarring or body areas where the skin is thicker.

The Dermapen is then passed across the treatment area in a controlled grid pattern, with a hyaluronic-acid or growth-factor serum applied during the session so the active ingredient is driven directly into the new channels.

A face session takes around thirty minutes of treatment time, plus numbing. Body sessions take longer. The session closes with a cooling mask or LED light therapy to settle the inflammation, and SPF 50 is applied in clinic.

After your Dermapen

For the first twenty-four hours, no makeup, no active skincare and no sunscreen, only gentle saline if your clinician suggests it. From day two to day four you may see light flaking as the new skin pushes through; resist the urge to pick or peel it.

For the rest of the first week, switch to oil-free, fragrance-free cosmetics and skip retinol, vitamin C and acid-based actives. Saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, swimming pools and intense exercise are out for forty-eight hours. SPF 50 every morning for four weeks is non-negotiable.

The post-treatment glow shows in a few days. The deeper collagen change builds over four to six weeks per session and continues for around three months, which is why a course of three to six gives the strongest result.

Often considered alongside

Patients booking Dermapen often consider the broader microneedling explainer if they are new to collagen induction, chemical peels for pigmentation between sessions, Profhilo when skin laxity is the priority, and PRP face when the platelet growth factors from your own blood are used to amplify the collagen response.

Common questions

What patients ask first.

What is Dermapen and how is it different from generic microneedling? +

Dermapen is the brand name for one of the leading professional microneedling devices on the market. The technique it delivers, collagen induction therapy, is the same as generic microneedling: thousands of microscopic channels created in the skin to trigger collagen and elastin production. The differences are in the device engineering: motorised vertical needle action rather than dragging, sterile single-use cartridges for safety, and a controlled depth range from 0.25mm to 2.5mm that lets the clinician match the depth precisely to face, body or scar protocol.

What depth and area does Dermapen treat? +

Depth is matched per area: 0.25mm to 0.5mm for fine lines and surface renewal, 0.5mm to 1.0mm for general face rejuvenation and pores, 1.0mm to 1.5mm for acne scarring, 1.5mm to 2.5mm for stretch marks and body areas where the skin is thicker. We treat the face, the neck, the decolletage, the abdomen, the thighs, the breasts and the upper arms. The deeper the protocol, the more intense the session feels and the longer the recovery window.

How quickly will I see Dermapen results? +

An immediate post-treatment glow is visible within a few days as the inflammation settles and hydration improves. The deeper structural change, the new collagen and elastin, builds over four to six weeks and continues for around three months after each session. A course of three to six sessions delivers cumulative results that can last six to twelve months before a maintenance session is recommended.

Does Dermapen hurt? +

A topical numbing cream is applied for thirty to forty-five minutes before the session, after which the sensation is best described as a fine sandpaper vibration across the skin. Face is comfortable for most patients; deeper passes on the body, stretch marks or scars can feel more intense, similar to a strong scratch. The session itself runs around thirty to sixty minutes including numbing time.

Who should not have Dermapen? +

We do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have an active skin infection, eczema flare or cold sore in the treatment area, who are on isotretinoin currently or in the last six months, who have a history of keloid scarring, or who have an autoimmune condition affecting the skin. Recent sun exposure, fake tan and active retinol use are reasons to delay rather than cancel.

How much does Dermapen cost at CoLaz? +

A single decolletage, inner-thigh or breast session is £149, with course rates from £390 (3) to £600 (6). A full-face session is £190 single, £513 (3) or £798 (6). Face and neck combined is £219 single. Stomach is £250 single. Stretch-mark protocols are quoted by area at consultation. All prices confirmed in writing at your free consultation before any session is booked.
