Fat freeze at CoLaz aesthetic clinics

Fat freeze at CoLaz, sometimes called cryolipolysis, uses controlled cooling to crystallise stubborn fat cells in pinchable areas such as the stomach, love handles, inner thighs and bra-strap fat. The crystallised cells are then naturally eliminated by the body over the following weeks. From £159 per single area, with structured multi-area pricing, across our UK clinics, with a free consultation and a written area plan before any applicator is placed.

Fat freeze, known clinically as cryolipolysis, is one of the most evidence-based non-surgical body contouring treatments available and the one most patients reach for when stubborn pinchable fat has not shifted despite a healthy diet and a sensible exercise routine. At CoLaz it is delivered by trained clinicians, planned around your specific body areas at a free consultation, and priced from £159 per single area across our UK clinics.

How fat freeze actually works

A cooling applicator is placed on the treatment area and uses gentle vacuum suction to draw the fat layer up into a chamber. The chamber is then cooled to a precise temperature that targets fat cells specifically, while leaving the surrounding skin, nerves and muscle unharmed.

Fat cells freeze and die at a higher temperature than the rest of the tissue, which is the principle the treatment is built on. The crystallised fat cells are then broken down naturally by the body's lymphatic system and processed by the liver over the following eight to twelve weeks. The result is gradual rather than immediate, and the inch loss continues to build for weeks after each session as the body completes the clearance.

The technique is fully non-invasive. There are no needles, no anaesthetic and no cutting, only a cold sensation and a tugging feeling from the vacuum during the session itself.

Which areas respond best

Fat freeze works best on pinchable, soft-tissue fat. The most reliable areas are the lower stomach, the love handles either side of the waist, the inner thighs, the area above the knees, the bra-strap fat at the back, and the bingo-wing area at the back of the upper arms.

The applicator needs to grip the fat layer with suction, so very firm or very thin fat layers may not be suitable. Suitability is checked at your free consultation, where the clinician will pinch the area to confirm it fits the applicator profile before any plan is agreed.

Fat freeze is not a weight-loss treatment and is best for patients already at or near a stable, healthy weight who want a targeted reduction in a specific area that has not responded to diet and exercise. Patients who maintain sensible eating and regular activity after the treatment get the longest-lasting result, because the treated fat cells do not return but new fat can still be stored if calorie intake stays consistently above expenditure.

What to expect after the session

The treated area is often red, slightly numb and tender for a few hours, and may feel firm or look slightly bruised for several days. A small number of patients experience a sharper tingling or itching sensation for one to two weeks as the small sensory nerves recover, which is normal and self-limiting.

There is no downtime in the conventional sense. You can return to work, the school run or normal life straight after the appointment. The two-minute manual massage at the end of the session, and the daily home massage for the first two weeks, both help break down the cooled fat cells more efficiently and reduce the firm-feeling phase.

Early changes are usually visible at three to four weeks and the full result of a single session at eight to twelve weeks. Photographs and circumference measurements are taken at the start and reviewed at each session so progress is tracked objectively across the course rather than estimated.

Available across selected CoLaz clinics

Fat freeze is delivered at our CoLaz Derby, Wembley, Slough, Reading, Southall and Hounslow clinics by qualified clinicians. Use the clinic finder to choose the location that suits your postcode and schedule, or send a WhatsApp message, most clinics reply within five minutes during opening hours.

Often considered alongside

Patients booking fat freeze often consider ultrasound cavitation as a needle-free alternative for areas that are too firm for the applicator, electrolipolysis for diffuse rather than pinchable fat, Aqualyx when an injectable fat dissolver suits the area better, and Lemon Bottle fat-dissolving injections for smaller, more defined pockets such as under the chin.

Common questions

What patients ask first.

What is fat freeze and how does it work? +

Fat freeze, also known as cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive body contouring treatment that uses controlled cooling to target stubborn pockets of pinchable fat. A specialised applicator is placed on the treatment area and uses gentle vacuum suction to draw the fat layer into a chamber, where it is then cooled to a precise temperature. Fat cells freeze and die at temperatures that leave the surrounding skin, nerves and muscle unharmed. The crystallised fat cells are then broken down and naturally eliminated by the body's lymphatic system over the following eight to twelve weeks. There is no cutting, no needles and no anaesthetic.

Which areas can be treated with fat freeze at CoLaz? +

The treatment works best on areas with pinchable, soft-tissue fat. The most popular areas are the lower stomach, the love handles either side of the waist, the inner thighs, the area above the knees, the bra-strap fat at the back, and the bingo-wing area at the back of the upper arms. The applicator needs to grip the fat layer with suction, so very firm or very thin fat layers may not be suitable. Suitability is confirmed at your free consultation, where the clinician will pinch the area to check it fits the applicator profile before any plan is agreed.

How many fat freeze sessions do I need? +

A full course is typically three to six sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart. Some patients see a noticeable change after a single session on a small area, but the most reliable result builds across a course as each round of cooled fat cells is eliminated and the next round is treated. The protocol is matched to the size and number of areas at your free consultation, and the full course price is confirmed in writing before the first session is booked.

When will I see results from fat freeze? +

The treated fat cells take time to be cleared by the lymphatic system, so the result is gradual. Early changes are usually visible at three to four weeks and the full result of a single session at eight to twelve weeks. Patients on a course see the result continuing to build as each session is layered onto the last. Photographs and circumference measurements are taken at the start and reviewed at each session so the change is tracked objectively rather than estimated.

Is there any downtime after fat freeze? +

There is no downtime in the conventional sense. You can return to work, the school run or normal life straight after the appointment. The treated area is often red, slightly numb and tender for a few hours, and may feel firm or look slightly bruised for several days. A small number of patients experience a sharper tingling or itching sensation for one to two weeks as the nerves recover. Walking, gentle exercise and the daily home massage during the first two weeks all help the body clear the treated cells faster and more comfortably.

Who should not have fat freeze? +

We do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have a known cold-sensitivity condition such as cryoglobulinaemia, cold agglutinin disease or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria, who have a hernia in the treatment area, who have impaired peripheral circulation, an active skin infection in the area, or a bleeding disorder. Patients with very loose skin in the area, certain neuropathies or significant medical history need a specific discussion at consultation. Fat freeze is not a weight-loss treatment and is best for patients already at or near a stable weight.

How much does fat freeze cost at CoLaz? +

A single session on any single area is £159. A three-session course on one area is £299, working out to roughly £100 per session. A three-session course on two areas is £498, and a three-session course on four areas is £867. The area count and course length are matched to your goal at the free consultation, and the full price is confirmed in writing before the first session is booked. There are no upsells in the chair and no hidden charges, and the consultation fee is redeemable against any treatment you book.
