Aqualyx is one of the most established injectable fat dissolvers in the UK and the only product of its kind delivered at CoLaz with a written prescription, drawn up by a qualified clinician at the chair. From £400 per single chin session, with structured course pricing for the chin and the larger body areas, across our seven UK clinics.
How Aqualyx actually works
Aqualyx is a CE-marked, prescription injectable based on a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a substance your body already produces to break down dietary fat in the gut. When injected directly into a localised pocket of subcutaneous fat, it disrupts the cell membrane of the fat cells in that area.
Once the membrane is disrupted, the cell releases its stored fat content. The released content is then carried away through the lymphatic system and processed by the liver over the following weeks. The fat cells themselves are destroyed and do not regenerate, so the inch-loss result is permanent provided your overall weight stays stable.
Because Aqualyx is a prescription-only medicine in the UK, it must be delivered by a qualified clinician working to a written prescription, not a salon therapist. At CoLaz that is non-negotiable, and the consultation and prescription always come before the syringe.
Which areas respond best
The most popular Aqualyx area is the submental fat under the chin, where a course of two to four sessions can give a clear jawline definition. The chin responds particularly well because the area is small, the fat is well-localised, and the change is easy to see in a profile photograph.
Larger body areas treated regularly include the love handles and flanks either side of the waist, the lower and upper abdomen, the inner and outer thighs, the bingo-wing area at the back of the upper arms, the bra-strap fat at the back, and the soft-tissue type of male chest fullness. Each area is assessed at consultation with a pinch test and a written plan before the first session is booked.
Aqualyx is not a weight-loss treatment. It is designed for localised pockets in patients at or near a stable, healthy weight, and works best when combined with sensible eating and regular activity. Patients who maintain their weight after the course get a permanent reduction in the treated area; significant weight gain afterwards will affect the remaining untreated fat cells in the surrounding tissue.
What to expect after an Aqualyx session
Significant swelling, redness, tenderness, warmth, bruising and a firm feeling in the treated area for the first three to seven days are normal and expected, not a complication. The chin in particular can look noticeably swollen for the first two to three days, so we plan the timing of each session around social or professional commitments where possible.
The aftercare is simple. Apply a cold compress wrapped in a clean cloth for ten minutes at a time, several times on the first day. Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first two nights after a chin treatment. Avoid alcohol, intense exercise, saunas and steam rooms for forty-eight to seventy-two hours. Drink at least two litres of water daily for the first week to support the lymphatic clearance.
The treatment effect builds over the following four to six weeks as the body completes the clearance of the released fat. Photographs taken at the start of the course are reviewed at each session so progress is tracked objectively, and the next session in the course is only booked once the previous one has fully settled.

Patients booking Aqualyx often consider Lemon Bottle fat-dissolving injections for a similar injectable approach with a different formulation and downtime profile, fat freeze for stubborn pinchable fat that responds best to controlled cooling, ultrasound cavitation as a needle-free option for larger body areas, and electrolipolysis for diffuse soft-tissue areas that do not pinch well.
Common questions
What patients ask first.
What is Aqualyx and how does it dissolve fat? +
Aqualyx is a CE-marked, prescription injectable fat dissolver based on a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a substance the body naturally produces to break down dietary fat in the gut. When injected directly into a localised pocket of fat, it disrupts the membrane of the fat cells in that area, releasing the stored fat content. The released content is then cleared through the lymphatic system and metabolised by the liver over the following weeks. The fat cells themselves are destroyed and do not regenerate, so the result is permanent provided your overall weight stays stable. Because Aqualyx is a prescription product, it must be delivered by a qualified clinician working to a written prescription, not a salon therapist.
Which areas can be treated with Aqualyx at CoLaz? +
The most common area is the submental fat under the chin, where Aqualyx can give a noticeable jawline definition over a course of two to four sessions. Larger areas include the love handles and flanks, the lower and upper abdomen, the inner and outer thighs, the bingo-wing area at the back of the upper arms, the bra-strap fat at the back, and the soft-tissue type of male chest fullness. Suitability of each area is confirmed at your free consultation, with a written plan and realistic expectation of how many sessions the area is likely to need.
How many Aqualyx sessions do I need? +
A typical course is two to four sessions spaced four weeks apart. The chin often responds well to a course of two for early definition and a course of four for the strongest possible result. Larger areas such as the abdomen and thighs usually need three to four sessions per area. The exact protocol is agreed at consultation and the full course price is confirmed in writing before the first session is booked, so there are no surprises later in the plan.
What does an Aqualyx session feel like and how long does it last? +
Each session takes about forty-five minutes from greeting to goodbye. The area is cleansed, marked and then injected with a series of small injections using a fine needle or a microcannula. The injection itself feels like a quick sting; the deeper sensation as the product is placed is more of a heaviness or aching than a sharp pain. A topical anaesthetic cream is available on request, and the product itself contains a local anaesthetic to keep the area comfortable. Treatment effect builds over the following four to six weeks as the body clears the released fat.
What are the side effects of Aqualyx? +
Significant swelling, redness, tenderness, warmth, bruising and a firm feeling in the treated area for the first three to seven days are normal and expected, not a complication. The chin in particular can look noticeably swollen for the first two to three days. Less common short-term effects include mild numbness, a temporary lumpy texture under the skin as the area settles, and occasional itching as it heals. We review every possible effect in detail at consultation and plan your sessions around social or professional commitments so the swelling phase falls at a convenient time.
Who should not have Aqualyx? +
We do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have a known allergy to deoxycholic acid or any other component of the formulation, who have an active skin infection in the treatment area, who have a bleeding disorder or are on certain blood-thinning medications, who have significant liver, kidney or heart disease, or who have a history of keloid scarring. Aqualyx is not a weight-loss treatment and is not suitable for patients with a high BMI seeking overall fat reduction; it works on localised pockets in patients at or near a stable, healthy weight. Suitability is confirmed by a qualified clinician at your free consultation.
How much does Aqualyx cost at CoLaz? +
A single chin session is £400, with a course of two at £680 and a course of four at £999. A single session on a larger area such as the love handles, abdomen or thighs is £550, with a course of two at £867 and a course of four at £1,275. A single male chest session is £550. The course recommended is matched to the size and number of areas at your free consultation, and the full price is confirmed in writing before the first session is booked. There are no upsells in the chair and no hidden charges, and the consultation fee is redeemable against any treatment you book.
