Electrolipolysis is one of the longest-established non-surgical body contouring treatments in the UK and one of the most reliable ways to reduce localised fat pockets that have not shifted with diet and exercise. At CoLaz it is delivered by trained clinicians, planned around your specific body areas at a free consultation, and priced from £70 per session across our UK clinics.

How electrolipolysis actually works

Electrolipolysis uses a low-frequency electrical current, delivered either through very fine sterile needles inserted just under the skin or through surface pads placed on the treatment area, to disrupt the membrane of localised fat cells. Once the membrane is disrupted, the cell releases its stored fat content as free fatty acids.

Those fatty acids do not vanish in the chair. They travel through the lymphatic system, the body's drainage network, and are processed by the liver over the following days and weeks. That is why hydration, gentle movement and a sensible diet during the course of treatment matter so much. The treatment opens the door, and your metabolism does the carrying away.

The technique is non-invasive in the surgical sense, with no cutting, no anaesthetic and no recovery time. The needle electrodes used in one protocol are very fine and most patients describe the sensation as a light tingle rather than a sting; the pad protocol is felt only as warmth.

Which areas respond best

Electrolipolysis works on localised pockets of fat, not on overall weight loss. The most reliable areas are the lower abdomen and stomach, the love handles either side of the waist, the inner and outer thighs, and the bingo-wing area at the back of the upper arms.

Smaller areas such as the soft tissue under the chin and the bra-strap fat at the back also respond well. Larger or more diffuse areas usually need a longer course to show a visible change, and the protocol is agreed at consultation with a written plan and photographs so progress can be tracked objectively.

The treatment is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. Patients who maintain sensible eating, regular movement and good hydration during and after the course get the best and longest-lasting result, because the treatment reduces existing fat cells but does not prevent new ones from forming if calorie intake stays consistently above expenditure.

What a typical course looks like

A full course is typically six to twelve sessions spaced one week apart. Smaller areas often respond well to a course of six, larger areas usually need eight to twelve, and the protocol is agreed at your free consultation before the first session is booked.

Each session takes about forty-five minutes and finishes with a short lymphatic drainage massage to support fat metabolism in the days that follow. There is no downtime, you can return to work straight after, and the only restrictions are sensible: drink at least two litres of water for the next three days, walk for thirty minutes the day after each session, avoid alcohol and high-sugar foods for forty-eight hours, and skip saunas and intense exercise for twenty-four hours.

Circumference measurements and photographs taken at the start of the course are reviewed at the halfway point and again at the end so the change is tracked objectively rather than estimated. Most patients see the strongest result building from session four onwards and continuing for several weeks after the final session.

Available across selected CoLaz clinics

Electrolipolysis lipo cavitation is delivered at our CoLaz Derby, Wembley, Slough, Reading, Southall and Hounslow clinics by qualified clinicians. Use the clinic finder to choose the location that suits your postcode and schedule, or send a WhatsApp message, most clinics reply within five minutes during opening hours.

Often considered alongside

Patients booking electrolipolysis often consider ultrasound cavitation as an alternative non-needle protocol for the same areas, fat freeze for very stubborn pinchable fat that responds well to controlled cooling, Aqualyx when an injectable fat dissolver is more appropriate for the area, and Lemon Bottle fat-dissolving injections for smaller, more defined pockets such as under the chin.

Common questions

What patients ask first.

What is electrolipolysis and how does it work? +

Electrolipolysis, sometimes called lipo cavitation in clinic, is a non-surgical body contouring treatment that uses low-frequency electrical currents to break down localised fat cells. The current is delivered either through very fine sterile needles inserted just under the skin, or through surface pads placed on the treatment area, depending on the protocol your clinician selects at consultation. The current disrupts the fat cell membrane and triggers lipolysis, the process by which the body releases the stored fat content. The released fatty acids are then carried away through the lymphatic system and metabolised by the liver over the following days. There is no cutting, no anaesthetic and no recovery time.

Which areas can be treated with electrolipolysis at CoLaz? +

The treatment is suitable for localised pockets of fat rather than overall weight loss. The most commonly treated areas are the stomach and lower abdomen, the love handles and flanks either side of the waist, the inner and outer thighs, and the bingo-wing area at the back of the upper arms. Smaller areas such as the area under the chin and the bra-strap fat at the back can also be treated. We always confirm the realistic outcome for your specific area at consultation, with photographs and a circumference measurement so progress can be tracked objectively across the course.

How many electrolipolysis sessions do I need? +

A full course is typically six to twelve sessions spaced one week apart, with the exact number depending on the size of the area and the amount of fat to be reduced. Smaller areas such as the chin or upper arms often respond well to a course of six, while larger areas such as the abdomen or thighs usually need eight to twelve sessions for a visible change. The protocol is agreed at your free consultation, and course pricing is confirmed in writing before any session is booked so there are no surprises later in the plan.

Is there any downtime after electrolipolysis? +

No, there is no downtime. The treatment is non-invasive and you can return to work, the school run or normal life immediately after the appointment. You may notice mild redness at the treatment area for an hour or two, occasionally a small bruise at a needle insertion point if needle electrodes are used, and a feeling of warmth in the area for the rest of the day. Drinking plenty of water and walking for thirty minutes the day after each session helps the body process and clear the released fat content faster.

Who should not have electrolipolysis? +

We do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have a pacemaker or any other implanted electronic device, who have epilepsy, who have a history of significant heart, liver or kidney disease, who have active cancer or who are within five years of cancer treatment, or who have an active skin infection in the treatment area. Patients with metal implants in the treatment area, very thin skin or a bleeding disorder need a specific discussion at consultation. We always review your medical history in full before agreeing the protocol.

When will I see results from electrolipolysis? +

Some patients notice a small change in circumference after the first two or three sessions, with the most visible inch-loss result building from session four onwards and continuing for several weeks after the final session as the lymphatic system completes the clearance. Photographs and measurements taken at the start of the course are reviewed at the halfway point and again at the end so the change is tracked objectively. Results are best maintained with a sensible diet, regular activity and good hydration, because the treatment reduces existing fat cells but does not prevent new ones from forming if calorie intake is consistently above expenditure.

How much does electrolipolysis cost at CoLaz? +

A single session is £70. A course of six is £380, working out to roughly £63 per session. A course of eight is £450, a course of twelve is £600, a course of eighteen is £792 and a course of twenty-four is £840, with the per-session rate falling as the course length increases. The course recommended is matched to the size and number of areas at your free consultation, and the full price is confirmed in writing before the first session is booked. There are no upsells in the chair and no hidden charges.
