Affordable Laser Hair Removal at CoLaz
Laser hair removal is removing unwanted hair from any area of your body. It’s a popular treatment for both women and men, with many choosing to go through the procedure as an alternative to shaving or waxing.
Hundreds of clinics across the UK offer laser hair removal treatments, but not all clinics are created equally. You want a clinic that provides medical-grade lasers for all skin types, understands the hair growth cycles to achieve effective results and keeps safety a top priority.
CoLaz Clinics has over 1 million treatments delivered and is rated 92% on Trustpilot reviews! We’ve got 9 clinics across the UK and offer clients some of the most effective and affordable treatment packages.
What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a form of permanent reduction of hair growth.
The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis, where the laser light energy heats the target, which is the dark pigment of the hair called melanin.
The laser will only target the melanin, which absorbs the light energy, eventually heating the hair follicle and causing enough damage to slow or prevent regrowth.
Since the laser light is absorbed by dark material in the hair, it will only cause damage to the hair follicle but not the surrounding tissues.
This is why laser hair removal only works on darker hairs, not blonde or white hair, as there is not much melanin for the laser light to absorb.
It is also essential to understand the hair growth cycle process, as laser only permanently disables hairs in the anagen phase.
How Does The Procedure Work?
The laser fires a beam of light to the skin absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. The hair follicle temperature is heated enough to destroy the hair follicle, preventing it from growing back.
The target timing for laser treatment is at the anagen hair growth phase for successful reduction of hair.
To completely understand how a laser works, there are three stages of hair growth:
2. Catagen Phase (transitional period)
3. Telogen Phase (shedding phase)
Who Is A Good Candidate For Laser Treatments?
Laser treatments are suitable for men and women with dark hair, and our laser machines treat all skin types, including darker skin types. Laser hair removal is an excellent option for people who have medical conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hirsutism. We also have many clients with religious beliefs and cultural traditions and people transitioning to being transgender.
How Permanent Is Laser Hair Removal?
It depends on what area of the body and what type of hair you are treating. If you have very thick, coarse hair, you can see up to 85- 90% reduction in hair growth. Someone with fine hair will only see a reduction of approximately 45- 60%. Remember, treating the face area typically requires more treatments because older females tend to grow new and denser facial hairs with hormonal changes, the natural ageing process or as a side effect of medications.
Can Laser Be Performed On The Full Body?
Laser hair removal can be done anywhere on the body and is popular on specific body parts. Both males and females get full body laser hair removal, including the genital areas.
Laser hair removal is safe!
Our Laser clinicians receive rigorous training before performing treatments on clients,
which allows for safe and effective treatments resulting in excellent results.
The entire team at CoLaz must hold a Level 4 Certificate in Laser and IPL hair removal treatments or equivalent, which ensure safe practice.
All clients are required to undergo a full consultation and patch test 48 hours before attending their first treatment. The patch test will ensure you are suitable for the laser and determine any skin reactions.
With laser hair removal, there is minimal damage to the skin as the light only targets the melanin in the hair.
What Is The Difference Between IPL Hair Removal & Laser Hair Removal?
IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light. You must understand that IPL’s are not lasers. IPL uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths, like a light bulb. The beam of light is not focused and disperses in different directions; therefore, only a small percentage is effectively absorbed by the hair follicle during treatment, producing minimal hair destruction.
IPL hair removal is only suitable up to skin type 3, and there is a high risk of burns associated with skin types 4-6 as they have more melanin in the skin. The IPL light disperses, which can cause burns on the skin.
A Laser is more effective than IPL as the light emitted from the laser is of one wavelength, which allows for deeper penetration and targets the hair follicle and does not cause damage to surrounding tissues. The laser we use at Colaz is effective on all skin types and hair types.

Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend you start with a course of 8 treatments. Our trained clinician will be able to recommend the ideal number during your consultation.
Raised bumps – hair follicles treated with a laser may cause slightly raised bumps, but these go down within 48-72 hours.
Pigment changes (changes in skin colour) – This occurs if you fail to ensure your skin is clean on the day of the treatment meaning no oil products or creams. If you have been away on holiday and have a tan, you must inform your clinician as treatment cannot be carried out due to darker skin, leading to possible hypo/hyperpigmentation. Usually, skin colour changes are temporary, and eventually, the skin returns to normal.
Folliculitis infections - are rare but can occur if you have a history of irritant folliculitis secondary to shaving. We advise all clients to shave two days before treatment with a clean razor. Dirty old razors can trigger folliculitis infections. You must notify your clinician of any skin irritation before laser hair removal, as we will require your skin to settle or undergo antibiotic treatment.
Burns or blistering – this is very rare but can occur. Therefore it is essential to undergo treatment by a qualified clinician.
