Thread and spider vein removal at CoLaz clinics

Send a photo of your thread or spider veins to your nearest CoLaz clinic on WhatsApp. A qualified clinician reviews the image, confirms whether the vessel pattern is suitable, and replies with a fixed price within one working day. We use advanced electrolysis: a very fine needle is inserted alongside each vessel and a brief thermolysis current coagulates and shuts the vessel down, leaving the surrounding skin untouched.

Good for

Who books this treatment.

  • Fine red or purple thread veins on the cheeks, nose and chin (facial telangiectasia)
  • Spider veins radiating in fine branches across the cheeks or nose
  • Small thread veins on the legs that are too fine for sclerotherapy
  • Patients with rosacea-type flushing where the underlying small vessels show through
  • Stubborn small vessels that have stayed visible for many months
  • Adults wanting a same-day in-clinic treatment with no injections and no surgery

Aftercare

For the first forty-eight hours.

  • Avoid touching, rubbing or picking the treated area for forty-eight hours
  • Skip makeup over the treated area for twenty-four hours
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, swimming pools and intense exercise for forty-eight hours
  • Apply SPF 50 to the face daily for at least four weeks after each session
  • Avoid alcohol, spicy food and very hot drinks for forty-eight hours, as these dilate the small facial vessels

What to expect

From your first consultation onwards.

  1. 01

Send a photo of the area on WhatsApp to your nearest CoLaz clinic (or attach the image during a free in-clinic assessment)

  2. 02

Photo reviewed by a qualified clinician within one working day, who confirms the vessels look like superficial telangiectasia rather than a larger varicose pattern

  3. 03

We reply with a fixed price for the session length needed and outline how many sessions are likely

  4. 04

If you would like to proceed, book in for your treatment session at the chosen clinic

  5. 05

Treatment is performed using advanced electrolysis: a very fine needle is placed alongside each vessel and a thermolysis current is delivered for a fraction of a second, coagulating the vessel from the inside

  6. 06

Cooling is applied between passes to keep the surrounding skin calm; sessions on the face are limited to around fifteen minutes per cheek to avoid overstimulation

  7. 07

Written aftercare confirmed before you leave

Fine red and purple thread veins on the face and legs are very common, very benign and very treatable with one precise tool in trained hands. At CoLaz a qualified clinician reviews a photo of the area you’d like treated on WhatsApp, confirms the pattern is superficial telangiectasia and not a larger varicose problem, and replies with a fixed price within one working day. Treatment is performed using advanced electrolysis at our Reading and Hounslow clinics.

What thread veins actually are

Thread veins, known clinically as telangiectasia, are fine red, purple or blue blood vessels that sit just under the surface of the skin and become visible as the skin thins with age, sun damage, hormonal change or rosacea. Spider veins are the same pattern but radiating out in fine branches like the legs of a spider, most often across the cheeks, nose, chin and outer thighs.

They are not dangerous and they do not signal a deeper vascular problem on their own, but they are persistent and creams will not lift them. The vessel has to be addressed directly, which is where in-clinic treatment comes in.

When you send a photo, we confirm the pattern is superficial telangiectasia rather than a larger varicose pattern that would need a vascular referral first. We only treat the fine surface vessels at CoLaz.

How removal works in clinic

We use advanced electrolysis as the precision method for thread and spider veins. A very fine needle is inserted alongside each visible vessel under good light, and a brief thermolysis current is delivered through the tip for a fraction of a second. The current coagulates and shuts the vessel down from the inside, and the body then clears the disabled vessel through its normal lymphatic process over the following weeks.

The current stays at the needle tip so the surrounding skin is left calm and untouched. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief warm pinch on each vessel, manageable without anaesthetic. Cooling is applied between passes to keep the area calm.

Sessions on the face are limited to around fifteen minutes per cheek to avoid overstimulating any one area. A typical appointment covers an area the clinician can complete cleanly within the time booked, and we always prioritise a thorough job over a rushed one.

Course length and aftercare

Most facial thread vein patches clear over a course of two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. That spacing matters because the body needs time to clear each treated vessel before the next session adds to the result. Leg thread veins generally need more sessions than facial veins because they are under higher pressure.

For forty-eight hours after a session, avoid touching, rubbing or picking the area, skip makeup for the first twenty-four hours, and avoid saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, swimming pools and intense exercise. Skip alcohol, spicy food and very hot drinks for the same window, as these dilate the small facial vessels and slow the result.

SPF 50 every morning for at least four weeks after each session is non-negotiable, especially on the face, because unprotected sun exposure during the healing window is the most common cause of new thread veins appearing alongside the cleared ones.

Often considered alongside

Patients booking thread vein removal often consider blood spot removal for the small bright-red cherry angioma papules that often appear in the same patients, IPL skin rejuvenation for the diffuse facial redness behind the visible vessels, PICO laser for sun-induced pigmentation and tone unevenness, and electrolysis hair removal where the same probe is used to clear fine unwanted hairs in the area.

Common questions

What patients ask first.

What are thread and spider veins? +

Thread veins, known clinically as telangiectasia, are fine red, purple or blue blood vessels that sit just under the surface of the skin and become visible as the skin thins with age, sun damage or rosacea. Spider veins are a similar pattern where the vessels radiate out in fine branches like the legs of a spider, most often on the cheeks, nose, chin and outer thighs. They are not dangerous, but they are very common and many patients want them cleared for cosmetic reasons.

How does thread vein removal work at CoLaz? +

We use advanced electrolysis. A very fine needle is inserted alongside each vessel under good light and a brief thermolysis current is delivered for a fraction of a second. The current coagulates and shuts the vessel down from the inside, leaving the surrounding skin untouched. The body then clears the disabled vessel over the following weeks. Sessions on the face are limited to around fifteen minutes per cheek to avoid overstimulating the area.

How do I send a photo for a quote? +

Tap the Send a photo on WhatsApp button at the top of this page. Choose your nearest CoLaz clinic that offers the treatment (Reading or Hounslow). WhatsApp opens with a pre-filled message; attach a clear, well-lit photo of the area you'd like assessed and send. We may ask one or two follow-up questions (how long the veins have been there, whether you flush easily, whether you have rosacea) so we can quote you accurately.

What if my photo shows something that isn't superficial thread veins? +

If the photo shows larger bulging veins, varicose veins, swelling, aching, skin discolouration around the ankle, or any leg vein that has changed quickly, the clinician will decline to quote and recommend you see your GP for a vascular ultrasound first. We only treat fine superficial telangiectasia at CoLaz. Pregnancy is also a reason to wait until at least six months after delivery, as facial thread veins can change significantly during and after pregnancy.

How many sessions will I need? +

Most facial thread vein patches clear over a course of two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, which is the time the body needs to clear each treated vessel before the next session adds to the result. Single isolated vessels sometimes clear in one session. Leg thread veins generally need more sessions than facial veins because they are under higher pressure. We confirm the likely course length in your photo quote reply.

Will it leave a scar? +

Scarring is rare in trained hands because the method works on the vessel itself rather than the surface skin. A small pink or pale mark can stay for several weeks while the skin remodels and usually fades by three months. Pinpoint scabs at the treated points are normal for a few days. Patients with a personal or family history of keloid scarring should mention this at consultation so the plan can be adjusted.

What is the aftercare? +

Avoid touching, rubbing or picking the treated area for forty-eight hours, skip makeup over the area for twenty-four hours, and apply the soothing cream we provide as needed. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, swimming pools and intense exercise for forty-eight hours, and skip alcohol, spicy food and very hot drinks for the same window, as these dilate the small facial vessels and slow the result. SPF 50 every morning for at least four weeks after each session is non-negotiable.

How much does thread vein removal cost at CoLaz? +

Thread vein removal is priced by the time needed and the area being treated. Small isolated patches are at the lower end of the range; broader patterns across both cheeks, the nose and the chin scale up. Pricing is confirmed per photo quote, in writing, before any session is booked. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we reply with a firm price for your specific case within one working day, with no obligation to book.
