Age spot removal at CoLaz clinics
Send a photo of your age spots to your nearest CoLaz clinic on WhatsApp. A qualified clinician reviews the image, confirms whether removal is suitable, and replies with a fixed price within one working day. We specialise in advanced electrolysis: a thermolysis current is applied via a fine needle that cauterises the pigmented tissue spot by spot, with options to switch to a PICO laser or peel-based approach where that is a safer fit for your skin tone.

Age spots are the most visible souvenir of years of cumulative sun exposure, and once they have settled into the deeper layer of the epidermis, fading creams struggle to reach them. At CoLaz a qualified clinician reviews a photo of the area you’d like treated on WhatsApp, confirms removal is suitable, and replies with a fixed price within one working day. Treatment is performed using advanced electrolysis at our UK clinics.
What age spots actually are
Age spots, known clinically as solar lentigines, are flat brown patches of pigment that build up where the skin has had years of cumulative sun exposure. They are most common on the face, the back of the hands, the forearms and the decolletage, the areas of the body that catch daily UV without protection.
They are completely benign, very common from middle age onward, and they sit in the deeper layer of the epidermis where the pigment is harder to lift with surface skincare alone. That is why brightening creams can soften them but rarely clear them.
We only remove spots confirmed as benign sun-induced lentigines. Anything that has changed in colour, size or shape, or anything pigmented and unclear in the photo, is referred back to a GP for assessment first.
How removal works in clinic
We specialise in advanced electrolysis as the precision method for benign age spots. A thermolysis current is delivered through a very fine needle that cauterises each pigmented spot in a few seconds. The current stays at the needle tip so the surrounding skin is left untouched, and sessions typically run fifteen to forty-five minutes depending on the number of spots being cleared.
We also offer chemical peels, laser pigmentation work, Hydrafacial for diffuse pigmentation and microdermabrasion as alternative or complementary approaches, and your clinician will recommend the best fit at consultation. For a few isolated stubborn spots on lighter skin, advanced electrolysis is usually the cleanest option.
For widespread background pigmentation, or for patients with darker skin tones where pigment change risk is higher, we review whether a PICO laser session or a Cosmelan protocol is a safer first-line approach before any in-clinic spot work.
Healing and aftercare
A small scab forms over each treated spot within twenty-four hours. Keep the area clean and dry for the first forty-eight hours, apply the antiseptic balm we provide twice daily for seven to ten days, and let the scabs fall away naturally rather than picking them. Picking is the single biggest cause of a longer healing time or a more visible mark.
A small pink, pale or temporarily darker mark at the treated site is normal for several weeks while the skin remodels, and it usually fades by three months. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, swimming pools and intense exercise for forty-eight hours.
Apply SPF 50 to the treated area every morning for at least eight weeks once healed. The new skin underneath is highly photosensitive and unprotected sun exposure during this window is the most common cause of the pigmentation coming back at the same site. SPF year-round is the single best way to keep the result.
Available across selected CoLaz clinics

Often considered alongside
Patients booking age spot removal often consider PICO laser for widespread background pigmentation across the face or hands, Cosmelan for stubborn melasma or hormonal pigmentation that has not responded to spot treatment, seborrhoeic keratosis removal for raised waxy age-related growths that often appear in the same patients, and IPL skin rejuvenation for diffuse facial pigmentation and redness.
Common questions
What patients ask first.
What are age spots? +
Age spots, known clinically as solar lentigines, are flat brown patches of pigment that build up where the skin has had years of cumulative sun exposure, most commonly on the face, the back of the hands, the forearms and the decolletage. They are completely benign and very common from middle age onward, but they are persistent because the pigment sits in the deeper layers of the epidermis where fading creams struggle to reach.
How does age spot removal work at CoLaz? +
We specialise in advanced electrolysis as the precision method for benign age spots. A fine needle delivers a thermolysis current that cauterises the pigmented tissue spot by spot in a few seconds each. The surrounding skin is left untouched. We also offer chemical peels, laser pigmentation work, Hydrafacial for diffuse pigmentation and microdermabrasion as alternative or complementary approaches, and your clinician will recommend the best fit at consultation, particularly for darker skin tones where laser pigment work can be safer than thermolysis.
How do I send a photo for a quote? +
Tap the Send a photo on WhatsApp button at the top of this page. Choose your nearest CoLaz clinic. WhatsApp opens with a pre-filled message; attach a clear, well-lit photo of the area you'd like assessed and send. We may ask one or two follow-up questions (how long the spots have been there, whether anything has changed, your skin tone) so we can quote you accurately and choose the safest method.
What if my photo shows something that isn't a benign age spot? +
If the photo shows a pigmented lesion that has changed in colour, size or shape, has more than one colour, has uneven edges, is larger than six millimetres, itches, bleeds or crusts, or is new, the clinician will decline to quote and refer you back to your GP. These are the standard ABCDE warning signs and they need dermatology assessment, not cosmetic removal. Changing pigmented lesions should never be cosmetically removed without dermatology assessment first.
How many sessions will I need? +
Most age spots clear in a single session. Larger or deeper spots sometimes need a second top-up session four to six weeks later, once the first treatment has fully healed. A wider pattern of pigmentation across the face or hands may need a course of sessions to clear the most prominent spots first and then maintain a clear background. We confirm the likely number of sessions in your photo quote reply.
Will it leave a scar? +
Scarring is rare with advanced electrolysis on superficial pigment in trained hands because the method is very precise and stays at the spot. A small pink, pale or temporarily darker mark is normal at the treated site for several weeks while the skin remodels, and it usually fades by three months. Patients with darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick four to six) are reviewed carefully because pigment change risk is higher and a PICO laser approach may be safer. Patients with a personal or family history of keloid scarring should mention this at consultation.
What is the aftercare? +
Keep the treated area clean and dry for forty-eight hours, apply the antiseptic balm we provide twice daily for seven to ten days, and let the small scabs fall away naturally rather than picking them. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, swimming pools and intense exercise for forty-eight hours. Once the area has healed, apply SPF 50 daily for at least eight weeks. The new skin underneath is highly photosensitive and unprotected sun exposure during this window is the most common cause of pigmentation coming back at the treated site.
How much does age spot removal cost at CoLaz? +
Age spot removal is priced by the time needed and the area being treated. A small cluster of spots on one cheek or the back of one hand is at the lower end of the range; a broader pattern across both cheeks, both hands or part of the decolletage scales up. Pricing is confirmed per photo quote, in writing, before any session is booked. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we reply with a firm price for your specific case within one working day.
