Microblading is the semi-permanent eyebrow technique that built its reputation on looking like real brow hair rather than a drawn-on line, and it is one of the most-booked services we offer for patients who are tired of redoing their brows every morning. At CoLaz every microblading session is delivered by a qualified microblading artist, priced at £350 including a complimentary perfecting touch-up, at our Southall clinic.
How microblading works
Microblading uses a fine handheld blade made up of micro-needles to deposit pigment into the upper layers of the skin in delicate hair-stroke patterns. Each stroke is drawn individually, in the direction your natural brow hair grows, to mimic a real brow hair rather than a solid block of colour. The shape is built gradually over the session, with the artist stepping back to check symmetry and balance between strokes.
The pigment is custom-mixed for your natural hair and skin tone, so a deep brunette gets a different shade from a soft blonde or a warm auburn. Because the pigment sits in the upper layers rather than the deep dermis, microblading fades gradually over twelve to eighteen months instead of staying as a permanent mark, which is part of why it has overtaken the traditional brow tattoo for patients who want a natural-looking result.
The technique is detail-driven and time-consuming, which is reflected in the appointment length. Allow around two hours from greeting to goodbye: twenty minutes for the numbing cream, around ninety minutes for the microblading itself, then a final review with photographs and written aftercare before you leave.
Who microblading suits
Sparse, thin or over-plucked brows are the classic case. So are patchy brows where some areas grow well and others have stopped, asymmetric brows where one side reads stronger than the other, and brows that have lost density with age. Microblading rebuilds the shape and the apparent density without you needing to fill them in every morning.
It also suits patients with brow hair loss from chemotherapy, alopecia or scarring, where the natural brow has thinned or disappeared. In those cases we coordinate with your medical team and only proceed once you have appropriate clearance and your skin has stabilised.
It suits busy patients who want to skip the daily brow routine, anyone who has built a brow routine that takes longer than the rest of their face combined, and anyone who has always wanted slightly stronger, slightly more defined brows but does not want a solid filled or tattooed look.
It is not the right call for patients who want a sharp, fully filled, makeup-style brow; for that look an ombre or powder brow technique is a better fit and we can discuss that at consultation.
Healing, touch-ups and maintenance
The healing timeline matters because the brows look noticeably different at different stages and it helps to know what to expect. Days one to three are the bold phase: the brows look dark and crisp because the surface pigment is fresh. Days four to seven, scabs form along each hair stroke and the brows can look patchy as the scabs shed naturally. Days eight to fourteen are often the most unsettling: a lot of surface pigment lifts with the scabs and the brows can look surprisingly faded, before the colour blooms back as the deeper pigment settles. By weeks four to six the true healed colour and shape are visible.
The complimentary perfecting touch-up at six to eight weeks is when we refine any sparse areas, fine-tune the shape and deepen the colour where it needs it. This is included in the £350 single session price.
From there, a twelve-month colour refresh at £199 restores the shape and tone without starting from scratch. Strong sun, retinol, vitamin C and acid-based actives on the brow area all accelerate fading; daily SPF 50 on the brow area and avoiding actives on the brow help the result last longer.

Often considered alongside
Patients booking microblading often consider dermaplaning to remove fine facial hair around the brow area, electrolysis hair removal for permanent removal of stray hairs outside the new brow shape, a Hydrafacial for a clear, smooth canvas before the microblading session, and a deep cleanse facial to prep congested skin in the weeks leading up to treatment.
Common questions
What patients ask first.
What is microblading and how is it different from a traditional brow tattoo? +
Microblading is a semi-permanent technique that uses a fine handheld blade made up of micro-needles to deposit pigment into the upper layers of the skin in delicate hair-stroke patterns. Each stroke is drawn individually to mimic a real brow hair, building a natural-looking, fuller brow shape gradually over the session. A traditional brow tattoo, by contrast, uses a machine to deposit ink much deeper into the skin and tends to read as a single solid block of colour. Microblading sits closer to the surface, fades gradually over twelve to eighteen months, and looks like brow hair rather than a drawn-on line. It is the right technique for anyone wanting natural-looking results rather than a permanent solid block.
How long does microblading last? +
Microblading typically lasts twelve to eighteen months before a colour refresh is recommended. The exact duration depends on your skin type, your skincare routine, your sun exposure and how your skin holds pigment. Oilier skin tends to fade slightly faster because the natural skin turnover lifts pigment more quickly; drier skin tends to hold pigment longer. Strong sun exposure, retinol, vitamin C and acid-based actives all accelerate fading. A twelve-month colour refresh at £199 restores the shape and tone without starting from scratch. Microblading is intentionally semi-permanent, which is part of why it suits patients who want to refresh their brow shape and colour as fashions and faces change.
Does microblading hurt? +
A topical anaesthetic is applied to the brow area for around twenty minutes before any work begins, which numbs the area significantly. During the procedure most patients describe the sensation as a light scratching or a fine tickling feeling rather than pain. The brow bone area can feel slightly more sensitive than the soft tissue. The brow artist will check in with you regularly and pause if needed. Most patients are comfortably scrolling on their phone for most of the session. Mild tenderness for a day or two afterwards is normal and easily managed with the supplied aftercare balm.
What does microblading look like as it heals? +
Knowing the healing timeline helps you plan around the procedure. Days one to three, the brows look bold and dark because the surface pigment is fresh and the skin is settling. Days four to seven, scabs form along each hair stroke and the brows can look patchy or uneven as the scabs naturally shed. Days eight to fourteen, much of the surface pigment lifts with the scabs and the brows can look surprisingly faded for a few days, before the colour blooms back as the deeper pigment settles. By weeks four to six, the true healed colour and shape are visible. The complimentary perfecting touch-up at six to eight weeks is when we refine any sparse areas and fine-tune the shape.
Will I need a touch-up and is it included? +
Yes. Every microblading session at CoLaz includes a complimentary perfecting touch-up six to eight weeks after the initial appointment, because the true healed result is only visible at that stage and most patients need a small refinement to a sparse area, a slight shape adjustment or a colour deepening. The touch-up is part of the £350 single session price and is not an extra cost. A twelve-month colour refresh, used to maintain the result, is priced separately at £199 and takes around sixty to ninety minutes.
Who should not have microblading? +
We do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who are on isotretinoin currently or in the last six months, who have an active skin infection, eczema flare, psoriasis patch or recent sunburn on the brow area, who are on blood-thinning medication without GP sign-off, who have a known sensitivity to the pigments used, who have a history of keloid scarring, or who have had Botox or fillers in the brow area in the past two weeks. Patients with significant diabetes, autoimmune conditions or who are undergoing active cancer treatment need GP clearance first. We always review medical history and brow history in detail at consultation and will decline if it is not safe or appropriate.
How much does microblading cost at CoLaz? +
A full microblading session is £350. This includes the initial consultation, the topical anaesthetic, the custom pigment mix, the full microblading session of around ninety minutes, the supplied aftercare balm, and the complimentary perfecting touch-up six to eight weeks later. A twelve-month colour refresh, used to maintain the result, is £199 and takes around sixty to ninety minutes. For microblading itself there is no separate consultation fee. Pricing is confirmed in writing at your free consultation, with no upsells in the chair.
