Stop Fine Lines and Wrinkles in Their Tracks with CoLaz

“Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul”. ~ Samuel Ullman What You Should Know About Fine Lines and Wrinkles You’ve no doubt heard the expression “fine lines and wrinkles” more than once from the many anti-ageing commercials all over the TV. Are you aware of the difference between the two though? And are you au fait with the causes and how to prevent them? No fear, CoLaz is here to break it all down. While you have probably heard fine lines and wrinkles referred to synonymously, there is actually some distinction between the two. Not only do they appear in different regions of the face, but they should also be treated differently—both in terms of the facial rejuvenation procedures you choose and the products you use as part of your daily skincare regime. Understanding the distinctions before you begin researching different treatment options will help make your free consultation with us a little bit smoother too.

Fine facial lines and wrinkles appear because of a variety of things. Fine lines often indicate the start of the ageing process and they develop when an irregular thickening of the dermis occurs at the same time as the amount of water stored in the epidermis decreases. As we age, our skin begins to show these fine lines, creases, folds or ridges which slowly deepen. Dynamic or static line wrinkles are when deeper lines or furrows develop in the skin.

These fine lines and wrinkles occur over time with movement, such as smiling or frowning. Dynamic lines will ultimately become static. Static lines remain unchanged with muscle movement. Facial examples of fine lines include the appearance of crow’s feet around the eyes, stubborn worry lines on the forehead, and frown lines between the eyebrows.

What’s the Difference Between Fine Lines and Wrinkles?

Facial lines can be separated into two functional categories: Fine lines are also known as our “expression lines”, these are lines caused by the movement of facial muscles when we laugh, smile or frown.

Deeper furrows caused by muscle contraction. Such wrinkles are deeper than fine lines and are caused by the natural process of ageing and gravity as surface lines deepen and set into the face. Wrinkle treatments tend to be much more effective for fine lines. Deeper creases and furrows will require more aggressive techniques—see below for suggested CoLaz treatments.

What Factors Promote Wrinkles?

Skin ageing occurs not only because we age in years but also because of multiple intrinsic and external factors. Factors include the natural aging process (which sadly there’s no preventative cure for—yet), sun damage, gravity, injury, general muscle movement, surgery, smoking, acne and similar skin conditions that have a tendency to scar.

Intrinsic skin ageing is the unstoppable biological effect of time on our skin and ‘wrinkling’ as a result of your genes, lack of elasticity, and, of course, our age. Environmental factors dramatically impact external skin ageing. These include, but aren’t limited to, our exposure to UV light, nutrition and lifestyle, the drying effects of weather, using inappropriate skin care products, and pollution/cigarette smoke. The areas of our body which are most exposed to the external environment (our face, neck, and hands), tend to be more visibly prone to ageing and wrinkling in comparison to other areas.

How to Prevent Fine Lines and Wrinkles

The main step to take to help stop the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is to begin by minimizing your sun exposure. Apply a daily-use broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 15 every day, even in the winter and on cloudy days. Broad-spectrum sun products work to filter out both the UVA rays which lead to skin ageing and UVB rays which cause sunburn.

Use an umbrella or sit in the shade as much as possible when outdoors. Protect your face and hair with a wide-brimmed hat.

Anti-ageing Skincare Regime

While it’s currently impossible to stop or reverse the ageing process, you can help to reduce the appearance of fine facial lines and wrinkles with a regular skin care regimen that suits your skin type. The tips below can help your skin appear fresher, brighter, and younger-looking. CoLaz has a range of exclusive skincare products which will help with fine lines and wrinkles.

– Use a cleanser on your face morning and night to remove makeup, perspiration, and daily grime for outdoor pollution.

– Apply a daily SPF moisturiser as suggested above to prevent further sun damage.

– Finding a CC cream with light-reflecting particles will instantly help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

– Use a moisturiser that contains Niacinamide to exfoliate the top layer of skin every night before bed. Creams with ingredients like vitamin E (Tocopherol Acetate) and vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) will also help reduce the toxins that can further damage your skin.

– Typically, the skin in the area around the eyes is the first to develop fine lines and wrinkles because it is so thin. Find a specialised hydrating eye cream containing Niacinamide plus vitamins B5 and E to help the skin in this area appear firmer and smoother.
