I’ve always had acne, I’ve had it under control for quite a while but recently I went on a trip to a slightly hotter place but not extreme, forgot my face wash and got a bunch of pimples. I thought that when I got home id just wash my face and it’d be fine in a few days but it’s been getting worse. I’ve noticed especially tonight that around my chin, nose and cheeks that they are very red and painful.
I do have some acne scars on my cheeks but they’ve never looked this bad. I tried using a cold cloth on my face but that only helped while it was on. I put on moisturizer for I thought it was from dry skin, maybe I overwashed it, but it stung so bad I almost had to rinse it off. I haven’t changed the products Ive used in almost 3 months so I don’t think it could be an allergic reaction.
I did wash my face 3 times today instead of the normal 2 because my face gets very oily. But this has never happened to me before. It’s really painful and if it doesn’t go away soon it will really start to affect my self confidence. the redness and burning is mostly my chin, my left cheek which I showed 2 pictures of and around my nose especially the sides around the top of my lip. Please help !!!
reply Hi Lindsay,
Firstly, you should see what type of acne you have. There are several different types of acne.
For example, Acne Vulgaris appears as whiteheads, blackheads and pimples on the skin which are caused by dead skin cells and oil clogging hair follicles.
Another type of acne would be Comedonal acne. This looks like skin colored bumps on the skin; these are most likely to be found on the forehead and the chin.
Also, it could be inflammatory acne. This can be red bumps and pustules that can become inflamed and painful. To help this it is recommended that you see a dermatologist.
Secondly, there are ways that you can help the acne and prevent it from getting worse.
For example, you should try to not eat junk food. If you are eating unhealthy foods this will only make your acne a lot worse as it is not good for the skin and sometimes can be a main cause of acne.
If you are using your face wash which you have found helps to improve your acne skin then you should stick to using this face wash. Do not try new products if you have sensitive skin and your regular face wash already works for you. You should apply your face wash gently and regularly enough without drying your skin out.
Another way to help acne is to try not to use makeup on top of the acne, especially if it is inflamed. This can clog your pores and make the acne even worse. You should leave your skin to breathe.
I hope that this helps and I wish you all the best in getting rid of your acne.
