Restore and Rejuvenate Your Skin with Intense Pulsed Light Therapy
Sometimes referred to as photo rejuvenation or a photo facial, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)is an intense, pulsed low-fluence (or density) light which rejuvenates the skin in a non-abrasive way.
Scientific developments in IPL have been focused on improving the treatment to use lights that do not harm the skin but instead promote a visible improvement in fine lines, wrinkles and dark patches.
Combat Skin Conditions
IPL can be tuned to help with a variety of skin issues; from flushed/red skin, to certain types of blemishes, through to sun damage as well as lines and wrinkles.
Sun damage is the main cause of hyperpigmentation on areas of the body which are most visible and exposed to the sun. It manifests as dark spots and blemishes on your hands, neck and face and not just in the form of cute freckles.
CoLaz IPL Skin Rejuvenation Treatment
Despite the name, IPL uses light therapy, and not lasers to emit a range of powerful and quick light flashes which target melanin (the coloured pigment in freckles and dark spots). It is a common procedure designed to restore a clear, healthy and youthful complexion.
The treatment’s light energy penetrates below the skin’s surface to where the unwanted dark melanin pigment lives. The heat from the lights breaks down the pigment into tiny particles. These particles then either rise to the skin’s surface as scabs (to shed away naturally within a week or so), or are carried away by the body’s lymphatic system (the circulatory network which lymph drains from tissue to blood).
As well as going after melanin, IPL can also have a subtle positive effect on fine wrinkles, large pores, rosacea—a skin disease that causes redness and pimples—and dilated capillaries (enlarged fine blood vessels).
During your treatment, our CoLaz experts will place special protective glasses over your eyes, before applying a cooling gel to your skin. The glass of the hand piece is then applied gently to your face to emit the pulses of light.
How Long Does It Take for IPL Treatments to Work?
For most people CoLaz advises a series of sessions over 3-5 months. This treatment schedule usually consists of 3-5 sessions of IPL a month apart. You will see an improvement after each session, though it’s common for your skin to respond slightly differently to each treatment.
The redder and more skin damaged your skin is, the more likely you are to need a full series of five sessions. Severe cases of sun exposure and dark spots may require more.
While IPL is considered a long-lasting solution, having a positive impact on many facial skin conditions, it is not a permanent solution. Sadly therefore, it does not stop the aging process.
How Does a Plasma Eye Lift Work?
- IPL therapy can be mildly discomforting, but the first session for clients tends to be the most uncomfortable. As your skin begins to clear, the treatment will gradually become easier.
- IPL therapy can last between 30-90 minutes depending on the size and condition of the treatment area.
- IPL is a safe, easy and highly effective procedure, with almost zero recovery need. It fits easily into your schedule and you can get on with the rest of your life straight after your session.
- You will also see great results throughout the overall process without undergoing any intensive surgery.
The CoLaz Facial Therapy Range
CoLaz also has a number of other treatments in our facial therapy range which are designed for skin rejuvenation and sun damaged skin!
The HydraFacial treatment is a multi-step treatment that uses highly specialized equipment and patented technology to improve the look of your skin by addressing multiple signs of ageing at once without any discomfort or redness.
PRP for Face (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a procedure that uses plasma rich in platelets to promote healing. It can be used for skin rejuvenation via injection of the concentrate into the face, hands, legs, breasts, and buttocks.
Dermapen is an innovative skin care treatment that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to strengthen skin.
Diamond Peel Microdermabrasion is a practically painless, gentle treatment that sloughs of dead skin cells to give an instant facelift.
Chemical peels improve the appearance and texture of skin by exfoliating and removing all the dead skin cells that clog up our pores.
Colaz Facial uses a combination of CoLaz’s own range of clean, conscious, and comprehensive skin care products and Episone products to help restore and brighten the skin.

AfterCare
Before your treatment with IPL, we will be happy to discuss your needs and recommend how IPL can help. We will review your medical history to see if you are suitable for the treatment, and we will explain what to expect and answer any questions you have about the treatment.
When you arrive for your treatment, ensure the skin is cleaned and shaved before treatment—no Perfumes or deodorants prior 24/48 hours. Safety considerations are essential during the laser procedure. The area to be treated may be marked out, and you and the operator will wear protective eyewear during the procedure.
- Immediately after treatment, there may be redness and swelling at the treatment area; this may feel like a mild sunburn. The erythema may last from 2 hours to 3 days. The application of iced water during the first few hours after treatment will reduce any discomfort.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hypo/hyperpigmentation.
- Use sunscreen SPF 30 or greater at all times throughout treatment.
- Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal treatment methods (waxing or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle at the treatment area. Shaving or depilatories may be used.
- If treating the underarm area, do not apply any deodorant for 24-48 hours
- After you have undergone laser, the hairs that have been successfully treated in the anagen phase will be permanently disabled.
- All hairs treated will shed over 7-10 days. You may or may not notice it shedding.
- Please note that after treatment, your hair will still be growing, and you will notice that this is normal in a few days; do not try to epilate them. Remember, you are only shaving the area, trimming the hairs back, and we are not removing it from the root.
- We recommend you shave the area around 10 days after treatment to help with the shedding process.
- New hair growth may be patchy as the successful hairs treated will be disabled.
- Avoid hot baths and heat treatments and treat the skin gently, as if you had sunburn, for the first 24 hours.
- If you are treating the face, please remember this area is hormonal, and you may need more treatments to notice the results – our trained clinician will explain more during the consultation
- Further, aftercare advice will be provided to you on your treatment day.
