Question: How old do you have to be to have laser hair removal?
Answer: The minimum age for laser hair removal is 18 years old.
At this present time we do not know whether this age range will be change until after the 1st October 2010.
This is because after this day the laser industry will not be regulated by the Care Quality Commission, an independent regulator of the
health care services in England.
However, your local council to where the clinic is regulated may still stipulate that the minimum age must be 18.
Depending on what area your hair growth is you could try Applisonix as this
is available for any age group as it uses ultrasound energy and is not a laser.
I hope this helps
Hi my daughter is just 6 years old and is getting teased at school for having really hairy legs. I certainly don't promote such a procedure
for a child so young but on the other hand I hate seeing my child so upset and now she is refusing to wear shorts in the summer, it's heart
I was wondering what the minimum age for ipl hair removal is for future
reference if the teasing persists or gets worse. I really don't want her to have any body issues or not feel confident.
Although we tell her to ignore what they say its very difficult fir her as she is very sensitive.
Reply Hi Janice, The Minimum age for having laser hair removal is 18. We are unable to obtain insurance in order to carry out
treatments upon minors. Often the skin can still be considered as baby skin before the age of 18, this means that it could be prone to
We offer a number of alternative methods to laser, such as an alkaline wash called Hair V go.
This helps to reduce the hair growth, but with a less harsh product. I can understand why you want your daughter to do laser, as I also
want my 10 year old to do it too. However, the age of 6 is honestly too young for your daughter to do laser as she will soon be going
through hormonal changes, when the menstrual cycle begins.
Hormones can promote more growth, making the treatment more ineffective.
If you are local to one of our branches then give us a call about the Hair V Go product range or google alkaline wash treatments for hair
reduction and find a salon near your area.
I hope this helps
I am a 14 year old girl. I have really dark black hair and dark brown skin. Do you think laser hair removal is ok at my age?
Reply Hi Bianca, To be honest I do not know what the rules and regulations are for laser hair removal in Australia, but in my clinic
we do not treat anyone under the age of 18 years old.
As you are only fourteen years old, you are quiet young, your hormones are probably still settling down, and also alot of the time your
skin may still be classified as baby skin, which would mean it may be far more sensitive to the laser and more prone to react.
I do recommend that you consult someone in Australia who would be able to help you. I think you are far too young to get laser hair removal
done, as you should be around the age of 18, by which time your body should be more prepared and your hormones normally would have settled
I am 17 years old and I have got dark hairs on the side of my face. I have quite a lot of hairs and it needs to be treated asap. I am white
British and I really need to get rid of these hairs. I am willing to pay any amount and i am able to get an adults consent.
Answer Hi Hannah as you are only 17 years old you will not be able to have laser until you reach the age of 18. As soon as you are
18 years you can come in for a consultation and patch test but before then you are not allowed to have laser hair removal treatment as the
laser industry licence will not cover any clinic.
If you do want to get treatment the only procedure is electrolysis hair
removal which is available for under 18 year olds.
I am 14 this year and have underarm hair, leg hair and arm hair. I really want to do the laser hair removal to remove it. No matter how
expensive it is, I would save money to do it. But I saw at some pages (which I can't remember) that said that the laser hair removal is not
Is it true?
If it is, is there some other way that is permanent? I have done waxing on my underarm many times so it doesn't really matter if it's
painful. And is a 14 year old able to do laser hair removal?
Reply Hi Charlotte, I understand that you are 14 and want to start doing laser but you have to be a minimum of 18 years old to
Laser hair removal is not permanent, but you will get a good reduction so long as you are not suffering from any hormone imbalance, or
taking any medication that can trigger more hair growth.
I have many clients who are undergoing underarm, full legs and arm hair removal treatment; they have seen really good results. Sometimes
even up to 90% reduction of hair growth off these areas.
I myself have had underarm laser done but do not need to have any more treatments because I only have two hairs which keep returning, which
I am currently treating with electrolysis.
Again with my legs I have seen really good results, the arms do take slightly longer to treat, you do require around 12 sessions, due to
the way the hair follicles are situated. But if you are suffering from any hormone imbalance such as PCOS, then that is an issue where you
will be developing new re-growth.
Laser is normally a permanent reduction.
can i have laser hair removal done at the age of 14?? if not please tell me what age i need to be !! thanks x
( i am a girl by the way)!
There is a statutory minimum age for laser hair removal and that age is 18 years. I'm afraid no establishment in the UK will treat you
because you are so young. I would wax the area and then when you are 18 years old treat the hairs with laser.
How old do i have to be to get the laser treatment done?
Reply The minimum age for laser hair removal is 18. Depending how much hair you want removing you could have electrolysis hair removal or continue waxing (if you do) until you turn 18.
What is the minimum age requirement for the treatment?
Reply The minimum age for hair removal is above 18 years old. Our licence does not cover us to treat anyone under the age of 18.
How old do you have to be to get laser hair removal on your side burns ?
By law you have to be over 18 years of age to undergo laser hair removal treatment. We follow strict guidelines set by the Care Quality
Commission and since they have been decommissioned our local authority has followed those guidelines not to treat anyone under the age of
If you are under 18 years old then you could have electrolysis hair
removal or continue with threading or waxing until you are 18 years old.
Hi I'm 15 year old teenager and I was wondering how it will affect the hair inbetween my eye brows and if it will work.
Laser hair removal can be done on people with all skin types so long as their
hair growth is dark and thick enough. However it will be difficult for you to find a salon which will agree to do laser on any individual
before the age of 18. The reason for this is because your skin can still be classified as baby skin until you reach 18 and therefore laser
will be too sensitive for you.
Also teenagers tend to be going through a number of hormonal changes which can affect the results they see from laser. So although you may
see a reduction from laser treatment, you may see it return as you
go through a growth spurt over the next few years.
In regards to the results you can expect from laser, laser can be effective on any part of the body. The face tends to be slightly more
hormonal so it therefore takes more sessions to see results here.
On average you will require around 6 - 12 sessions of laser to see optimum result. You will find that your hairs will become finer and
patchier. Also some people find that hairs take several weeks to reappear after a substantial amount of sessions.
In order to see the best results your hair-growth must qualify as suitable for laser, it needs to have a dark hair colour and be slightly
thick. If you have blonde hair this treatment will not work for you. Also if your hairs are too fine it may mean that you will see no
difference at all. Most males tend to have thicker hairs so often they have a good chance at seeing effective results from an early stage.
You are only 15 years old, if you are unhappy with the growth on your mid-brow you should consider either waxing it away or threading as
the results can temporarily last around 2 - 3 weeks before your hairs come back. Then once you are 18 you can schedule a consultation with
a therapist and they will advise you as to whether you should consider laser or not.
