Which one is better for dark skin type Laser hair removal or Electrolysis. Also Which machine would you recommend for both treatment types?
Reply Both treatments are very good for dark skin types. Don’t use a IPL machine on dark skin as this could cause a burn. Find a clinic that has either a YAG machine or Diode laser. If your skin is Afro or Sri Lankan then go for a YAG laser.
Electrolysis hair removal is good if you have individual or scattered hairs. Laser is good for larger areas. I am not sure what area of the body you want treating and I have not seen your hair type.
I suggest if you are local book a free consultation and one of the therapists could look at your skin type and hair growth and will recommend the best hair removal method.
I have dark skin and very hard hair on my face and grows very quickly. I had my test patch which was fine and now I am starting my proper treatment.
Will my skin be okay while treatment? I don't want to get more darker. I am going to get Yag laser treatment as I have darker skin also they have given me 1 cooling gel and a whitening cream to use while treatments.
Can u tell me my skin color will not get any darker by taking laser sittings please
Reply Saba it's best if you speak with your therapist regarding your concerns because I don’t know what yag is being used and what the settings are.
The Yag will not give any clients darker skin, however there is a possibility of pigmentation or hyperpigmentation occurring, so long as you are wearing SPF 30 or above and following your aftercare procedure you should be fine. But please do consult your therapist if you have concerns about your laser treatment.
I have had laser hair removal before on IPL and received a large number of treatments - however the results haven’t been particularly amazing - although there has been some reduction. I don’t think that I need to start on the lowest level, but start rather on a higher level, due to the laser treatment I have had before.
Do you assess which level is required to start at? Or do you start at a low level? I don’t want to waste money that is why I ask.
One other question, which is better for hair removal for South Asian skin: IPL or the Soprano XL? Bearing in mind that you can get laser hair removal at such cheap prices on the IPL.
Answer: It seems that you have spent a lot of money on your treatment, really not suitable for darker skin.
IPL is really only suitable for skin type 1-3. South Asian skin is classified as skin type 5-6.
My guess is the IPL was done on a low setting to avoid your skin being burnt because of your skin colour.
Also IPL is not classed as a laser and is a very inexpensive machine and therefore salons can offer treatment at a low price.
The only problem is cheaper is not always the best option. Especially when you are dealing with your skin.
We use the soprano laser technology that is suitable for all skin types and even black skin.
It is a diode laser. You can find out more about the laser by clicking this link.
When you see a therapist they should assess your skin and hair type and then set the machine according to your skin type.
I Hope that answered some of your questions
Hi. I would love to permanently reduce my body hair. I have very fair skin and thick dark hair which grows very fast, does this mean laser treatment will work well for me?
Reply Hi Louise
As you have dark hair and fair skin, then yes you will see a really good result. But results are also dependant on your skin type and hair type as well.
What is best for you is to come in for a consultation with a therapist so that she can look at your skin. When looking at how many sessions you require for laser, it would also vary according to which area of the body you are treating.
For example with legs you would need between 6 – 12 sessions. However with the face it takes slightly longer to treat, due to it being one of the most hormonal areas. Therefore you will require some sort of maintenance even after the initial course.
You have stated that your hair does grow back very fast, that could be normal – but at the same time if it is coming back every 2 weeks it may be indicating that you suffer from a hormonal inbalances.
All this is normally discussed on a consultation. So the best thing to do is to book in for one.
I hope that helps
Which lasers are best for black people?
Answer: The Diode Laser is good for black skin. Actually the Diode laser is suitable for the following skin types 1-6. The types of lasers are Light Sheer, MedioStar, Soprano XL, LaserLite, Epistar.
The Nd:Yag is also a great laser for Black skin but it's a very painful procedure.
