Our stone therapy combines heat, massage, and the placement of smooth stones in specific areas. You will feel the stress leave your body as you relax while your energy levels balance.
Our massage therapists first place a large stone under the triangular section of the back called the sacrum. This provides heat to the entire lumbar area.
Then they place stones along each side of the laryngeal muscle of the spine. All of the stones are left there for between 15 and 25 minutes, depending on the needs of the client.
As shown in the picture here, our massage therapist holds a tooling stone. If you look at her thumb, you will notice a similarity between the thumb and the stone. Most therapists have to apply a lot of
pressure with their thumbs if they are going to be kneading. Our tooling stone acts as an extended thumb, allowing us to apply pressure to one particular knot, called a flush.
We usually place a stone in our client’s hand to prevent them from getting cold. That’s because their body temperature drops during a massage. It’s called “tucking” and it is another benefit of hot stone therapy massage over traditional massages like aromatherapy.
Hot stone massage therapy is not recommended for anyone who is more than a few months pregnant or who has varicose veins, high blood pressure, ulcers, or any kind of skin disease. We’ll review your medical history including whether you are currently taking any medications that may react to heat, before we fix a massage for you.
