Brazilian Hair Removal

The Popular Choice for Removing Unwanted Hair Down There Brazilian hair removal has become one of the most popular choices for grooming the pelvic or pubic area. For centuries, women have been removing their pubic hair due to cultural, aesthetic, or hygienic reasons. And, with the introduction of thongs and string bikinis, the clean, smooth look has been making a fashionable comeback. In 1987, Brazilian sisters began offering a type of pubic hair removal at their salon in Manhattan, NY. As this method gained popularity, it came to be referred to as the Brazilian Wax.

What is the brazilian wax?

This method involves removing all the hair from the pubic area, including the labia and between the buttocks, with the exception of a small section known as the “landing strip” that can be trimmed into any shape or design. Some people choose not to leave this small piece of hair and prefer a completely hair-free look.

Most recently, this style of hair removal has also prompted a new fashion trend known as Vajazzling or Vatooing, where a small temporary crystal or ink tattoo is placed on the bikini area.

What to expect from a brazilian hair removal wax treatment

For the most part, the actual hair removal procedure of the Brazilian wax is identical to the method used on other parts of the body.

The procedure will be done in a private room and, depending on the amount of hair you are having removed, can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes. Some pain will be experienced, so if you have sensitive skin you may want to take pain medication ahead of time.

If the hair is long, the esthetician may trim it first and then talcum powder is applied to the areas being treated to help prevent the wax from sticking to the skin.

Hot Wax: A layer of hot wax is spread on the hair that is to be removed and a cotton cloth strip is placed on top. Once the cloth, hair, and wax have had enough time to firmly adhere to each other, the strip will be pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. Tweezers are used to remove any hairs that may have been left behind, and a lotion is usually applied to the treated area as it is will be red or irritated.

Hard Wax: Some people prefer that a hard wax be used, which is applied warm and peeled off when cooled without the need for a cloth strip. This type of wax is used at a lower temperature so the skin is not as traumatized.

Cold Wax: Although cold wax is not always as effective as the hot or warm options, it is much gentler so people with sensitive skin may find this method favorable for the delicate pubic area. Room temperature wax is applied to a strip which is then pressed over the area being treated and  pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. Since the skin is not heated, there is less chance of redness or irritation; however, some people find that the results are not as good, especially on really coarse hair.

Sugaring: Sugaring is very similar to using hot wax but the mixture is applied at a lower temperature so there is less risk of burning, redness, or irritation. Some people prefer sugaring because it doesn’t adhere to the skin quite as well as wax, so it is easier to clean and less likely to cause trauma such as bleeding or inflammation.

Brazilian laser hair removal

Laser treatment is an alternative to waxing and offers a more permanent Brazilian hair removal solution. It is important to consider that, unlike shaving or waxing, laser hair removal is not temporary. So, you should be absolutely sure about how much hair you want removed because you will be living with this decision for the rest of your life. For this reason, some people choose to have laser treatments on the bikini line only and continue waxing the rest of the pubic area.

Brazilian laser hair removal offers the benefit of almost permanent, or long-term, hair removal without the need for painful waxing, frequent shaving, or the use of chemical-laden creams. Initially, it will cost more than other methods, but the long-lasting results are worth the investment.

This method also has very few side effects and most people say that the pain level equals that of a regular bikini wax. You can expect between 3-6 sessions, depending on the amount of hair being removed and the sensitivity of your skin, and touch up sessions may be required yearly.

Brazilian hair removal is quickly becoming one of the most popular methods of choice for those wanting to remove pelvic or pubic hair. With a variety of available options, it is safe and fairly risk free, even for those with sensitive skin. Since this area is extremely delicate and can damage easily, it is recommended that you have your Brazilian hair removal treatments done by a professional that is skilled and experienced in this method of hair removal.
