What Are Alpha Hydroxy Acid?
Alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) peels are derived naturally from various plant sources and milk. These acids are naturally occurring products present in sugar can, sour milk, citrus fruits, tomato juice and apples are a few examples. The AHA chemical peel is generally more gentle on the skin while still offering some resurfacing benefits. The AHA peels are available in different strengths ranging from 3%-70%.
How Do AHA Peels work?
AHA acids slough off dead skin cells and help to restore a more radiant and healthier complexion. AHA chemical peel solution works by removing the outer layers of skin on the face or elsewhere on the body, revealing a new, smoother layer of skin. The action of the chemical solution promotes the formation of elastin and collagen, both of which are necessary for healthy, youthful skin.
What Types Of AHA Peels Do We Offer At CoLaz?
Glycolic Acid Peel
This peel, in particular, is also known as an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) in the aesthetics industry, which means it will dissolve dead skin cells and reveal newer skin with each use. You may notice healthier-looking skin after only one treatment, but results continue to improve over time when used regularly.
The Glycolic Acid Peel can help treat acne scars, hyperpigmentation, discolouration, dehydration lines on your forehead and around the mouth. Glycolic Acid Peel has been shown to have a fibroblast stimulating action which helps with a youthful appearance.
This specific peel is suitable for all skin types because it tends to be less irritating than others.
Lactic Acid Peel
This peel works at a deeper level than exfoliation and improves the texture and tone of the skin. It is suitable for all skin types, significantly sun-damaged, dehydrated skin and can improve open pores, hyperpigmentation, age spots and dull and uneven skin tone.
This peel also has an antibacterial effect due to the lactic acid content, which helps with congested or acne-prone skin by preventing clogging. This is one of the gentler peels, suitable for sensitive skin.
The lactic acid peel can be used in conjunction with other peels; for example, if your skin is dehydrated, the lactic acid peel will be applied first, and then a second AHA would be used to provide optimal effects.
Kojic Acid Peel
Kojic Acid is a skin-brightening ingredient found in nature from various organic sources (mainly sake fermentation). It's been popular as a safer alternative to harsh bleaching chemicals like Hydroquinone, which can harm the skin's delicate pigmentation mechanism.
The AHA Kojic Peel inhibits melanin synthesis (tyrosinase activity) while treating existing pigment problems, including melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Kojic Acid's far-reaching lightening effects have been compared to the harsh chemical agent hydroquinone (a highly polarizing treatment option for pigmentation disorders). Unlike Hydroquinone, Kojic Acid's delicate technique for skin clarity comes with virtually no danger.
The AHA Kojic Peel is ideal for individuals with sensitive skin because of its mild peeling effects. A complex formula contains the most effective nature-based brightening tools without unpleasant side effects.
This single-step, powerful yet safe chemical peel lightens, brightens, and tightens all in one step. Kojic Acid also has anti-microbial properties, adding to the AHA Kojic Peel's ability to treat even severe hyperpigmentation with continued usage.
The AHA Kojic Peel is generally safe for most skin types. Prune (AHA) peels are particularly suited for normal to dry, pigmented, sensitive/reactive, sun-damaged, dull, and uneven skin types.
Fruit Acid Peel
The fruit acid peel, also known as fruit enzyme peel, is made with protein enzymes produced from natural resources and contains amino acid-derived proteins. The following are the main components: - Mix of AHA acids including glycolic, lactic and pyruvic acid; - One peel includes an additional acid of Kojic; known as fruit acid with Kojic peel.
The 3 fruit-based AHA components in this powerful combination work together to target all layers of the skin for visible improvement. Glycolic works on the deeper levels of the epidermis, signalling fibroblasts and contributing to collagen activity increase.
It also helps to brighten the skin. Pyruvic targets pigmentation, inflammation, and bacteria proliferation which helps to reduce inflammation, redness and assist with minimizing pigmentation.
Lactic acid is hydrating, so some people skin losses hydration; this is pumping hydration and working at deeper levels. This peel is suitable for all skin types.
Our fruit acid with kojic acid has the additional benefit of kojic, which acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor to prevent the formation of melanin.
