Would Microdermabrasion Suit My Skin

I just read the question glenn wrote to you. You did not make it clear whether microdermabrasion will help him with his open pores.

Also i suffered from steriod induced rosecea a year and a half ago i am still experiencing sensitive skin, open pores and uneven skin with a little pigmentation.

What would you recommend and would microdermabrasion be safe on my skin.

Regards
T

Answer: Microdermabrasion does help with open pores and uneven skin. You will need about 6 to 12 sessions to see good results.

If you feel your skin is still too sensitive there is a chance that you may react to the diamond heads. I therefore suggest you have a skin test before commencing treatment.

With regards to the pigmentation it depends what type it is. If it's to do with sun damage then microdermabrasion will help along with some skin lighting products.

I hope that helps

Do you specialise in acne scars for black skin

by Sue
(London)

Hi there,

I am African Caribbean female needing treatment for my acne scarring and hyper pigmentation. Can you help?

Sue

Reply Hi, Sue

We offer a number of different treatments which can help to reduce acne scarring and hyperpigmentation. These include microdermabrasion, chemical peels and micro-needling.

You will find that hyperpigmentation tends to occur most in ethnic clients such as Asian and African skin types. So we therefore do offer treatments for people from all ethnic backgrounds.

As there are different methods that can be used to reduce scarring and discoloration we ask our clients to come in for a free consultation.

This allows us to recommend the most appropriate procedure. To determine this, the therapist would need to see how deep the pigmentation is under the skin.

We would also need to confirm the type of scarring you have been left with. Ice pick scars which leave several indents deep in the skin are difficult to treat with any other method other than micro-needling.

If the scarring is not too severe it may be better recommended that you consider a less harsh treatment. Both Microdermabrasion and chemical peels involve removing the outer most layers of skin in order to reveal fresher skin beneath. The great thing about Microdermabrasion is that there is no down time; meaning you can even have it done during your work lunch break.

Micro-needling can be quiet an intense treatment it involves the process of several needles being carefully placed against the skin. This causes trauma to the skin, our bodies naturally respond to trauma by producing new and refreshed cells to replace the old.

Therefore Micro-needling is effective in leaving the skin smoothed out and refreshed. Other benefits include reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. There is also an increased stimulation of collagen production. Therefore 4 weeks post your treatment you are likely to see a visible improvement in the skin.

Regardless of your ethnicity all the above treatments are suitable for treating acne scarring and pigmentation. You would however need to inform a therapist about the cause of your pigmentation prior to any treatments; those who suffer from hormonal induced pigmentation may need to lower their expectation from the treatment.

Without seeing your skin and medical history it is difficult to say which treatment will suit you best.

Microdermabrasion Facial Whilst Undergoing Laser Hair Removal

(Hayes)

Hi,
I am having laser hair removal done on my face at your clinic (sideburns, chin, upperlip and a bit of the neck) roughly now every 8 weeks.

Can I have microdermabrasion done on my face obviously not on the same day as the laser hair removal treatment but maybe after a few days or few weeks?

What would you advise?

Thanks

Reply: You need to wait at least 3 to 4 weeks in between laser sessions to get a microdermabrasion facial. So if you are getting laser hair removal every 8 weeks you are fine to have microdermabrasion in between your lazer hair removal sessions.

So to answer your question, yes you can have microdermabrasion but wait 3 to 4 weeks (depending how sensitive your skin is)after your laser treatment.
